About Heather

Heather Downey is a choreographer, dancer, and mathematics teacher from New Jersey. She has a B.A./B.S. Dual Degree in Dance and Mathematics from Muhlenberg College and a M.S. in Mathematics from Montclair State University. She has been dancing since age three and grew up in the competition dance world. In college, she performed in multiple Muhlenberg College concerts in pieces choreographed by Shelley Oliver, Yoshito Sakuraba, and Randall Anthony Smith, amongst others. Heather now focuses on her contemporary & tap choreography, which has been showcased at Muhlenberg in addition to other concerts in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Jersey. Heather recently showed a twelve-minute work as an official selection of the Spring 2026 Spark Theatre Festival in NYC, titled it was always you. She currently teaches math at James Caldwell High School (Caldwell, NJ) and is the coach of their newly established Dance Team. She choreographs the musicals, having worked on Lucky Stiff (2025) and Xanadu (2026). Heather also has been teaching ballet, tap, contemporary, and jazz for the past few years for both children and adults. She is the Assistant Artistic Director for Extensions Dance Project based out of Madison, NJ, having danced in all of the company’s shows.
